An image is essentially a kind of pizza construed from a human's curiosity, honesty, intuitive knowledge, those 3 based upon long term assertions, extreme hard work and imperviousness to socialistic limits from the now and the location_
All my life, everyday of it, there has been a 'good samaritan' to tell me 'how it should be for me' and everyday, in order to escape this horrible social noise, I concentrated into doing all things to the most exacting level I could perceptually reach_
It is a fact, that when you have learned the way into the deep waters of concentration, all your social sensors just shut off or bugger off and leave you alone with the task at hand_ be it repairing a doorknob or reconnecting your computer network or crawlinginto a sub-basement flooded into the fresh shit from a just-this-morning bursted out pipe_ each task must be done to the best of your actual perception_
Photography is just a tool, a very limited tool if we compare the chemical world with its own organic-like laws and the digital world with its speed-of-light reactions, to our own slug-like biological world_but, a tool not worthy of note in terms of creating content, but notable through a capacity to carry/transfer some content_
As Joplin sang 'the song remains the same'_ our own personal existence, is simply built upon our capacity to develop content, not carry it, just simply develop it_ we are true magicians in the sense that what we throw up as images is just that_ content from many, many somewhere elses, a transfer action from the unkown into a media, usually the one most accessible at that instant_ but, the extent/quality of this content is directly related to one's own cultural capacity_ and culture is developed by any individual through the use of his/her allotted time slot to experiment intellectually and physically a diversity of skills such as can be acquired within a certain social context_ now, moving physically from one social context to another is a very efficient way for comparative acquisition of skills and the funny part, is that the more skills you develop/acquire, the easier it comes to do_
The drama, is that, as most people have never considered differential skills acquisition as a valuable part of the self, most are now, stranded into specialized ways creating simple short-term satisfaction, long term satisfaction is simply unattainable through quickies and yet the longing oh the longing to feel that long long wave within one's beingl_
In all civilisations, be it a tribal one made of 50 pygmies or a mongol one made of hundred tribes, the song remains the same_ people who know to 'speak within the imagery world' are always begetting the utmost respect_ if you can reach/read some of the speeches by American Indian Chiefs, from when they had to 'speak' the white language, they translated their self into it in such a magically descriptive way that even now, no socialite or whatever intellectualite can even reach the base of the magnificent content of these speeches made to the winds of time, by humans which so much respect for their innards that survival was not a tr.. but a tr..
What I am essentially saying, is that without culture, there can be no amagalmation and transfer of subliminal content and human life is only/all within imagery_ so if you have a gun within your hands, then you can only put shells into its chamber and there is nothing left within you for imagery_ life is all about content not at all about the shell...

Photography, what an actual world_ but for most it simply brings up visions of Cartier Bresson and all those giants now lurking in the shadows of the now digital all around me but not me because I do not know where to find the me within all my possessions_
And yet, here is my baby at six weeks now six feet sized blowing the wall away, the wall of it's crib room_ yeah show me, but what exactly?_ maybe a trip within the new lands of the virtual worlds, where you can 'recreate' a one-self, or would it not be more simple to buy one there?_ they come much cheaper than in the 'real' world_
Photography has now gone the way of all the tools which become reacheable, instantaneous_ the mob grabs them and tramples them, composts them_ remember painting; it's been around us for how long? and yet is still is, if only to show that content is the essence, not the form, technique_how many millions do painting? god knows_ how many click at around? well you should know! it's all over the public spaces, it has a kind of 'goey' feeling, like a composting odor floating all within itself_ what an aquarium to swim into_
The one element which is slowly being strangled or exterminated, is the concept of hardwork_ by this I do mean hard in the physical as well as cultural, I mean personal work based upon a personal assessment of one's own reality/non-reality_ this is the one which is going simply away, if just because no longer used, exactly like a language...the less you use it, the more is dissolves itself from your brain, like a wisp of smoke, it departs you towards somewhere else_ someone else? extinction...ahoy
The word Photography still remains as an economical anchor, the digital reality having trouble at spinning itself away from the conceptual popular notion of what is an image_
The fun part for me, is that digital has nothing to do with 'the taking of pictures' but everything to do with culture, personal culture that is and not national continental or whatever kind of flag one is normally draping itself within_ call me a canadian, a quebecker, a north american, and still you will be behind the conceptual curve about what is a cultured individual_
And here comes the digital reality of being human_feel depressed? earth google a bit and start jumping from one impression to another, around this planet, your planet_ yes, your planet_ feel like knowing differencial beings? again internetize yourself_ all the while, all your cubicled comparsitos drink a beer with a tv sport event, burping away their precious time_
The question is not a moralistic, but a totally holistic one_Curiosity, mobility, culture, respect require a continuous effort_ they all 'go' against 'the grain of life', biological life that is_ the question is can you satisfy yourself both ways? biologically through consumption, intellectually, through education, within a localized sphere?_ can you? have you tried?_

In a few years, your physical space will be made of screen walls, your furniture will be basically imbedded within the space and your possessions will be in sync with your own fragility_ however, your capacities for expression will be exponentially extended and work will no longer be a set aside period_ you will always be 'at work' due to the fact that you will be digitally integrated within this sphere or planet's aura or cognitive base_
Now this seems absurb to most of entities and yet it is now happening at a faster and faster clip, almost exponentially_ we still speak about privacy, a dead specie, we still wish for the big lottery ticket, a dying breed, we persist in shooting up the neigbourhood, in an hilariously horrible fashion_ not even interested into where all this is leading_ sports and going to the moon are the most read abour subjects_
Meanwhile, at the...ranch_ well there is not much use for cattle anyhow, so the ranch has become a very quiet space, yet full of ideas ranching around the nodes, digital and biolo, assembling and re-assembling within the silence of the so called 'dead ranch'_ welcome into the digital ranch which is slowly redefining the world, it keeps it slow in order for us to catch-up and yet, each time we think we are within reach of it, it just zooms away, but just enough away to keep us busy within the sphere of our own illusion_ of course we shall never catch up, we are biolos_ remember the Ford T...that is what we are now, about to reach the evolutionary end of our type of life_
When someone speaks of 'extra-terrestrial' life or species, I roll on the floor and play dead until the air cleans up_ there is no such thing as an extra-whats it_ there are litterally billions of types of expression of human intelligence, and we are but a shard, a tiny little grain of it, busily growing up to the ripeness level where we will simply implode and leave the seeds for another, more adequate specie to carry human reality |
